Unstacking panel

Postby naturama » Thu Feb 19, 2009 3:46 am

I got a panel from an excel dataset.

First: the "cross id" in excel were "country names" (e.g. australia) but eviews took instead numbers (one for australia , 2 for the second nation and so on). Is there any any to get directly "country names"?

So, I used "valmap" to assign names to numbers.

Second: I am now interest in unstacking the panel but the "id" series with "valmap" is not accepted and I must use the one with numbers. Unfortunately this means that the new series have names like "gdp1","gdp2" and not "gdpaustralia" and so on and I have to rewrite the name of each variable by hand: is there a way to get directly "gdpaustralia"?

Thanks for helping me

I can't think of any reason why EViews would read in a column of text in Excel containing country names, and convert that column into a series of numbers. Are you sure that is what happened?

I have no idea what you did to get the data into EViews, but when I open that Excel file in EViews, the county variable comes in perfectly.
