Eviews 8 32-bit Patch 071113

Postby PeterBrown » Thu Jul 18, 2013 12:35 am

I'm having a few problems silently installing the Eviews 8 32-bit patch number 071113; I've recorded a setup.iss using the standard -r switch, but the silent install does not appear to be doing anything. The process appears in the Windows Task Manager with a 0 CPU, it sits there for a while and then disappears again. When I run Eviews 8, it states we are on standard Edition May 17 2013 Build.

Setup.ISS is as follows:
[InstallShield Silent]
Version=7.00
File=Response File
[File Transfer]
OverwrittenReadOnly=NoToAll
[{C24A8909-AA26-4CF1-B91D-7D2A1182B927}-DlgOrder]
Dlg0={C24A8909-AA26-4CF1-B91D-7D2A1182B927}-SdWelcome-0
Count=3
Dlg1={C24A8909-AA26-4CF1-B91D-7D2A1182B927}-SdAskDestPath-0
Dlg2={C24A8909-AA26-4CF1-B91D-7D2A1182B927}-SdFinish-0
[{C24A8909-AA26-4CF1-B91D-7D2A1182B927}-SdWelcome-0]
Result=1
[{C24A8909-AA26-4CF1-B91D-7D2A1182B927}-SdAskDestPath-0]
szDir=C:\Program Files\EViews 8\
Result=1
[{C24A8909-AA26-4CF1-B91D-7D2A1182B927}-SdFinish-0]
Result=1
bOpt1=0
bOpt2=0

Strangely the 64-bit patch seems to work without problem....

Any help would be appreciated

I dont know if this is the problem but in the setup.ISS file I created, it contained

Code: Select all

Version=v7.00
whereas yours contained

Code: Select all

Version=7.00
I would try recreating the iss file using the latest 071713 patch. If you are still having problems, in the same directory as your iss file, should be a setup.log file. What are the contents of that file?

Hello Jason

Many thanks for getting back to me. I've run a few tests on my patch installation and have made the following findings:

Having Version=v7.00 or Version=7.00 does not seem to make any difference to the setup.iss file.

For me at least, the installation log file was NOT created automatically for the patch installation (or at least not in the same location as the installation files themselves).

Running the patch file as follows does not seem to work
Eviews8Patch_071713.exe /s

However, it does work if you explicitly state the location of the setup.iss file
Eviews8Patch_071713.exe /f1C:\temp\eviews\setup.iss

For reference purposes for those who may not be familiar with installshield, there is no space between the f1 and the file location, the file location MUST follow directly after the /f1

If you do need a log file, then you can use the /f2 switch
Eviews8Patch_071713.exe /f1C:\temp\eviews\setup.iss /f2C:\temp\eviews\eviewsinstalllog.txt
again, do not leave any spaces between the /f2 and the path to the file

It also seems to be the case that you can use hyphenated switches as well as forward-slash switches - I didn't see any difference in using either
Eviews8Patch_071713.exe -f1C:\temp\eviews\setup.iss

And yes, both patches seemed to work in this manner, so I think it was my lack of expressly stating where the setup.iss file was that was breaking the install.

Many thanks for your help, I now have a working system and hopefully my findings and quick write-up may be useful to someone at some point.

Thanks for the update and I am glad to see you got it working.

For future reference, silently installing the patch is the same as silently installing EViews. Step by step instructions on how to do so can be found here
