Running Regression

Postby jmcc1988 » Wed Feb 20, 2013 6:48 am

Hi-

This may be a silly question but I am very new to this sofware and to econometrics in general.

I am trying to run a regression for a project to show a relationship between income and commute time. Basically trying to prove there is a premium to income the further one has to commute.

I have US census Bureau data broken down to individual states and have loaded it into eviews in as several separate categories. As an example, I have income less than 10,000 as "inc10" and there are 50 data points in there, one for each state. I have similar series for other brackets of income, for age and for commute time.

Based on this, how do I formulate an equation that takes into consideration age and commute time versus its effects on income? I think what I am lacking is a defined Y variable but can I group my "inc" categories together for that?

Thanks.
