Hi there,
I am using Eviews7
My data consists of 1 time series identified by year and 2 cross-sections by analyst code and firms
Here is an example of how data looks like in Excel:
Firm Year Analyst AFE lag_AFE broker_size intensity
1 2000 x 0.1 0.2 5 7
1 2000 y 0.2 0.5 6 8
1 2001 z 0.5 0.7 4 9
2 2001 x 0.6 0.5 2 1
2 2001 z 0.7 0.4 3 1
2 2002 t 0.1 0.5 2 4
So each of my observation will be uniquely identified by analyst and firm. The set of analyst will vary from year to year and so as the firms.
I am trying estimate an equation afeijt = C+ lag_afeijt + broker_sizeijt +intensityijt for the whole 10 year period from 2000 to 2009
Where: i is the analyst, j is the firm and t is the year
I tried to import this data to Eview and make eview recognise as a panel by input the year ID is year by go Proc -> Restructured current page -> Undated panel -> Enter year in the yearID section and in the Cross sections ID , I enter both Firm and Analyst series.
But it seems that Eviews doesnt recognise this as a Panel because when I tried to do the estimation by going New object -> Equation, there is no panel option there but only a normal least square regression choice.
So How can I make Eview recognises it as a 3-D panel and estimate the equation above?
Thanks in advance
How to import an 3-D panel data in Eviews?

You've found that you can't do year/id since it doesn't uniquely identify the observation. The undated panel option shouldn't have prompted you for year so I think you may have accidentally done dated. Choose undated, enter the ID, and then say yes when it asks to create a cross-section identifier. Then you'll have the panel for the cross-sections, but you'll have to handle any year effects yourself.
