Problem with Excel 2.1 whrite command

Postby lasda01 » Mon Apr 18, 2011 1:08 pm

hi

We have a small problem with EViews :

When we create an Excel file with Write instruction in EViews, we got this to messages:

The first one indicate a format problem

The second one, when we try to save the file, indicate that the program will convert the format of Excel, from the 2.1

TKS for your help

We've followed up in email asking for additional information on what the user is trying to do...

As I alluded to in the email message, using pagesave will be better than the older write command. Write does write older Excel files (I don't recall the version, but it's possible they are 2.1) which should be readable by Excel. Pagesave should write newer files (but I'm not sure of that version either).

In any event, if I'm now understanding correctly, you can simply say YES when it Excel asks you whether or not you wish to convert your Excel file from the older version (I now believe that contrary to the original posting, the message comes when you try to open the file not when it is being saved). The older files are certainly readable by any version of Excel.

Actually, slight modification to what Glenn wrote - I believe both write and pagesave will create Excel 2.1 files.
