Fetch vs Update DB

When I right click on a work file variable the pop-down menu has several choices, including "Fetch from DB" and "Update from DB". What is the difference?

For a single series, 'Update from DB' will automatically overwrite the series and 'Fetch from DB' will prompt before overwriting a series.

For a group, 'Update from DB' will update just the series in the group, whereas 'Fetch from DB' will give you the option to fetch both the group definition and series, or only the series, or only the group definition.
