how to input character data?

how to input character data?

dear all:
when i input panel data in eviews, i find that i cann't use character data such as crossid list (ex, usa, Japan, or just like data type "string" in stata ), may eviews can only input numberic data?

EViews is fine with string data, just be sure to define your variables using "alpha" rather than "series."
