ASCII Read and skipcol
A quick question - when using the Read command for an ASCII file, I can use skipcol=n option to ignore the first n columns in the file. Is there anyway to get EViews to ignore the nth column out of N (e.g. the 5th column out of 10)? I suspect not, but wanted to check as the alternatives will be less efficient computationally.

No.
As an aside, the READ command was depreciated in EViews 4. You should be using IMPORT or WFOPEN.
