QMS has already got support staff for EViews, and it worked fine when I last used this service some years ago. However, would it be possible to hire staff at EViews that would solve more time-consuming or complicated programming problems for a reasonable cost? This would make it easier for people (with research funding) to swich to EViews even if they have no previous experience of the software's language. One option would be to charge the customer per time unit it takes to solve the problem. Another option (that would be easier to sell to people with research funding) is a license type where unlimited (or limited) programming support is included.
For QMS it would be rather easy to set up such a system. First start with the staff that you have, and hire more people if this is a success with "too many" customers. This would sell more licenses (since people know that they can swich to EViews without the risk of not being able to solve a problem in this new software) and this would also lead to a profit for selling support time. Try it since there is no risk involved, and I think it would work!!!

Note that the EViews web sit lists a number of vendors who offer consulting services related to EViews.
