way to refresh linked series

Postby afryan » Thu Jul 21, 2016 10:15 am

I have a graph that includes a series that is based on data that passes through several linked series across several workfile pages, including two frequency conversions. When I solve a model, the results don't seem to immediately flow through and update the graph. If I monkey around a bit, opening various series for example, I can get the graph to update itself. Is there any command I can run as part of my model solve script that would help ensure that all linked series are "refreshed"?

Ultimately I am planning on viewing the data from Excel. Perhaps with the Add-in. Is there any step I should take to make sure that all linked series are fully updated after I change one of interim series, and/or resolve the model, but before I switch over to Excel expecting to see fresh data?

As background, the linked series are being created through a program. So if there are any "refresh" characteristics of linked series that I should set with the linkto command, that would be helpful. All of the data that is being used for the linked series is within Eviews (i.e. none is coming from links to Excel or other databases).

Just multiply one of the underlying series by 1 - that should force an update.

Thanks. I'm maybe not entirely clear how to implement this in my program. I tried redefining the series using:
frml moncn_demdsa_adj2 = moncn_demdsa_adj2*1

However, that results in a circular reference. How do I multiply a series by 1?

As a experiment, I've add a step at the end of my program to calculate a temporary series based on some of the interim series.
series temp = moncn_demdsa_adj2*1

This seems like it's generally working, as various graphs tend to update after I run a script. I'm now trying to set up an Excel workbook that I can use to view the workfile output. The issue I've encountered now is that linked series don't appear in the Excel add-in when I try the "Get Data" command. Only the @RESID series appears. How should I access linked series in a workfile from Excel? Should I add a final step to my program to write an Excel or csv file, and then link to that?

I'm using Eviews 8.1 and Excel 2013.

Yes, in EViews 8, that's probably best.
