Data error

I was trying to import data into eveiws as unbalanced panel and hence took I chose the followig: file -> open ->foreign data , but when I got to step 2) in the import procedure the text representing NA is taken as a value of my cross sectional id. I tried formating the colum, but that did not help! What makes it even more ambigous is that, I had already imported the same database and it worked, but I had to add one variable extra to my excel sheet and after the import it recognized my unique Id as text representing NA.
