date conversion

date conversion

I have a problem importing date data form excel files expressed in a YYYY-MM-DD format. For example, eviews imported 2005-04-21 and converts it to a number, in this case 38463.0
Is there a way to convert the 6 digit number to a year? In this example, I need to work with a value of 2005 rather than a number. I have a data file with 80,000 records and need to convert all
