I saw some posts on this topic but most people were using X12 then. Now that x13 carries the feature which allows you to import your own holidays, I wanted to add the Chinese New Year as my user-defined variable.
So I do X13 -> variables -> user-defined regressors -> add. my questions are:
1. what is the difference between the different holiday types: holiday1-holiday5?
2. for my user-defined CNY variable, suppose that would be a dummy variable...do I put 1s for the CNY period, and 0s for others? or do I put 1s for the build up period (e.g. 1 week before CNY)?
Thanks!

Re: X13 seasonal adjustment - user-defined holidays
You'll have to refer to the X-13 documentation. It comes with EViews, and is stored in the documents folder of your EViews 8 installation - usually:
C:\Program Files\EViews 8\Docs\x13
C:\Program Files\EViews 8\Docs\x13
