Hi,

I a very confius...I have the following data..i dunt know how enter those data in a panel workfile...my bos ask me to complete this task within 3 days...i seriously don't know...some one pls help me...

How do i identify the cross section identifiers from a stacked data panel

Hi Gareth,

I have a question relating to panel data. I want to model store level sales data (the dependent), advertising and prices (the expanatories). The advertising is at the regional level and I want to allocate the same value for every store in the region (but still model at the store level). See the attached for the data and an indication of the issue.

Is there a way of setting identifiers in EV7 so that this could be done automatically (for example see your first post in this thread)? Note that my cross section is stores.

Not sure what you're asking here - are you asking how to get that Excel file into an EViews workfile? (In which case, to be honest, I would just do a quick manipulation in Excel to make it more EViews friendly), or are you asking whether such data is possible to use in a panel equation (in which case, yes, but you won't be able to use any fixed effects).

I have an Excel file (attached) with date in the first column and stock prices for 100 firms in the subsequent columns for 1999-2011. I need the data in panel form where I have 3 columns essentially: firm name; date; price in a series where I'd have stock prices for firm A 1998-2011 and right below that firm B 1998-2011 and etc. I'd preferably want this output in Excel form.

I tried the technique on page 1 of this thread where I have the label 'price' for every firm in the first row then I just Reshape Current page -> Stack in new page. However, when I copy and paste this series in excel and I split the first column into name and date the date portion doesn't actually format in date format.

I did the following.
Opened the Excel file in EViews (default options).
Hit Proc->Reshape->Stack in New Page.
Entered "price?" in the first box, and hit enter.
Then, on the new page, did File->Save As, then changed the type to Excel, typed in a name and hit ok.

Seemed to work fine.

EViews 6 doesn't read .XLSX files.

Now suppose that I convert the file into .xls format like below, what should I do to import the data into Eviews 6?

There's not really a way to do it in EViews 6, unfortunately.

My data set is similar to your second example however when I try and unstack the data into a new page I get an error message saying "ID series do not uniquely identify workfile observations". Any ideas what the problem may be? I've attached my data set.

Ukraine has two values for GDP.
