Number Format Problem

Postby oneoff » Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:16 am

hi everyone,

Using Eviews 6, I've encountered a problem when trying to import excel data. The order is actually as follows, I created a table in SPSS, copy/pasted it into a new workfile and then saved it as an excel file (there are reasons for it ;) Now I have the problem that eviews is not taking over the number format, e.g. my price-index 98,21 is made into 9821,00 and for some reason 101,91 is made into 10191,00 so it seems kind of random. I really cannot find a way to change this! The only thing I did discover is that one of my series, i.e. exchange rates has maintained the original format, but eviews labels this as an alpha series or something, so 'abc' instead of a normal series symbol.
How can I maintain/change number formats and change alpha series into normal ones?

Thanks alot in advance,

Mike

I opened that file in EViews 6, and it appeared to open just fine.

Gareth,

Out of curiousity, I opened this in 7.1 and only the first three data columns came in.

On the first step of the open, rather than using "Predefined range", use "Custom Range" and set the range to be D3:J124

hi again,

I'm puzzled. it just doesn't work. My steps: open new workfile-date regular data, Quick-empty group (edit series)- copy from excel sheet and paste into columns. My price index is transformed from e.g. 86,41 into 8641.000 and my exchange rate is converted into a date (i.e. from 1,07 into 1/7/1999 or something). It's really annoying being stuck at the initial step of inserting data. Does anyone have a proper solution? Thx

Mike

Open the Excel file. i.e. File->Open->Foreign Data as Workfile

Return to “Data Manipulation”
