estimating latent demand

Postby maaariiianne » Tue Aug 03, 2010 1:25 am

I have a household survey of Kenya and I used it to estimate a Tobit regression for electricity demand. Now I would like to derive the latent electricity demand for households not connected to the electricity grid. I would be very grateful for any kind of help on how to do that.
Thanks a lot and all the best,
Marianne

Use the "Forecast" tab next to "Estimation" in the equation window, if you have successfully estimated your model. Select the "Index-Expected latent variable" option under "Series to forecast". This will give you the expected value of the latent response variable.

Thanks a lot for your answer. Unfortunately when using the "Index-Expected latent variable", differently to when using the "expected dependent variable" I get mainly negative values. I guess I need to change the regression, as a demand can not be really negative. What do you think where the problem is?
Thanks again!

I think you want to choose expected dependent var rather than "index."
