Looking up objects inside local subroutines?

Is there some way to querying objects created inside a local subroutine from within that same subroutine? Both @isobject and @wlookup check for objects in the workfile but, unless those are provided as arguments to the subroutine, they are out-of-scope from the subroutine. (To me, it would seem more logical and useful if @isobject and @wlookup checked for objects accessible within the current scope.)
