copying data from a page with different frequency

I use EViews 6. I want to program the following. I have monthly data in the first page of a workfile (created by the progam) which I want to copy to another page and convert to linked quarterly data in another page. In other words I want to emulate the paste special operation in the program. I've been unable to see (understand?) how this can be done or whether it can be done from the manuals.

You just want to create a link object. Then use the linkto command to specify the link.

The Link section of Chapter 1 of the Command and Object Reference (EV6) or the Object Reference (EV7) has a pretty good description.
