Jewish Calendar Holidays Seasonal Adj.

Postby yoniboi » Fri Dec 18, 2009 8:47 am

Hi I am trying to seasonally adj. data in eviews using X12-ARIMA and in the help it show only that i can choose...

"The Regressors option allows you to include prespecified sets of exogenous regressors in your ARIMA model. Simply use the checkboxes to specify a constant term and/or (centered) seasonal dummy variables. Additional predefined regressors to capture trading day and/or holiday effects may be specified using the Trading Day/Holiday tab. You can also use the
Outlier tab to capture outlier effects."

i do not want to adj. the data with the default holidays but give a new exogenous regressor that i made to adj. for jewish holidays

is this possible, if so then how?

thank you

yoni

I don't believe X12 lets you specify your own holiday dates.

X12 is such a big program that it is almost impossible for us to offer a front end to all of the features in the stand-alone program. It may be possible, however, for you to use the EViews X12 command while providing your own specification file which performs the desired adjustment (using the "sfile=" option).

What we write in the manual is...

"EViews provides most of the basic options available in the X12 program. For users who
need to access the full set of options, we have provided the ability to pass your own X12
specification file from EViews. The advantage of using this method (as opposed to running
the X12 program in DOS) is that EViews will automatically handle the data in the input and
output series."

You should take a look at the Object Reference entry for X12 for details.

Hi Yoni,

I am trying to get a Jewish calendar integrated with Google Calendar here in Los Angeles, i found a Yoni that has created a Jewish Calendar that works with Google Calendars, it does look great but i can not change the location from Flushing, Queens to Los Angeles. The Candle lighting times would not change to Los Angeles times. Are you by any chance the Yoni that has designed the Calendar? If not can you please advise the best way to intergrate a jewish calendar with the Zemanim (Times)?

Thanks,
