Linking series to Excel file via command window or program

I am using Eviews 9.5, Built 17 March 2016

Is there an approach to define links to an Excel file in the command window or in a program, such as:

link x
x.linkto "c:\mydata\myexcel.xlsx" range=Sheet1!$A$2:$A$40 colhead=1 na="#N/A" @freq q 1980Q01 @smpl @all @keep x

Not with the linkto command. Only as part of the original import.
