Still on workfile pages management

Postby rnt2008 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 5:44 am

I have to manage a model with about 100 equations and 200 series and I would like to store them in two different pages, one for equations and another one for series. As far as I understand this opportunity is currently missing (let me know if I am wrong) even with the Eviews 7.0 unless creating series links etc. My question is very simple, why you do not allow equations to read series across all pages of the workfile, I think this option could significantly enhance the page organization of the workfile.

The main reason is that there isn't a consistent/logical way to do it. If one page is monthly from 1990 2000 and the other page is annual from 1970 to 1995, how do you want to access one series from another? You'd have to tell EViews how you want the frequency conversion to work etc..., which couldn't be done with a simple inline link to another page. If one page is monthly 1990 2000 and the other page is organised by states it becomes even worse.

Essentially what I'm saying is that whenever you work with a series from another page, you have to specify a way of converting the frequency or merging the data types between the two pages, which is why you need a link object, that has that specification embedded in it.

Many thanks for the reply, I understand the problem in delaing with series with different frequency, however I was essentially asking to enable an equation to read series from another page, as for external DB files, without link/copy them.
