Low to high frequency conversion in Eviews 9

Postby ChristoL » Sun Jul 26, 2015 10:44 am

Could you please advise: Many of the low to high (eg annual to quarterly series) conversions are, in my view, no longer calculating properly in Eviews 9 (eg cubic, quadratic).

An example, and the build date of your copy of EViews, will probably help the EViews folks identify the issue.

I just received an EViews 9 update notification this morning (build 23 Jul 2015). Now, when doing a low to high frequency conversion from one (annual data) EViews file to another (quarterly data) EViews file, the program bombs out!
The attachment shows how the conversion was correctly performed in EViews 8. The conversion in EViews 9 (build 1 Jul 2015) is wrongly done - see Excel file with EViews 8 and EViews 9 (build 1 Jul 2015) calculations.
Another problem with the conversion is that in EViews 9, the option to "Merge Data if Possible" no longer functions. The data series are ALWAYS overwritten.

Hi Christol:

I wasn't able to reproduce the crash you talked about. If you're able to reproduce this issue, please send me the details on how to do so.

Now about the cubic conversion values: It seems a previous code change allowed the Paste Special dialog to allow you to paste as link, even when doing a low-to-high frequency conversion. This should not have been allowed as the link feature does not support cubic conversion. The dialog will erroneously default to "Paste as link" in your case. Until we resolve this, please change it to "Paste as Series (by value)" on the Paste Special dialog when doing an up conversion between workfiles. This should resolve both the incorrect values issue and the merge issue you mentioned.

Steve
