"workfile does not meet wf1 specification"

Hello,

I was working on a workfile for my dissertation, my computer was lagging heavily for some reason. I managed to save before restarting. When I tried to open the workfile I encountered the "workfile does not .wf1 specification". I checked the forum and found a post saying that there would be a backup file with the same name and to simply change that to wf1. I tried that but I still get the same problem with the new file. Is there any way to correct this? Thank you for any help.
