I've finished optimizing the program, but I have a question which relates directly to your above comment and the initial question at the start of the thread. If the workfiles are going to end up being extremely large, isn't it better to delete objects as the program progresses? Intuitively I feel that it's expensive for the software to have to alphabetically sort every object to place any newly created objects if the number of existing objects is extremely large. Is the tradeoff in efficiency from having to delete a large number (of the now superfluous) objects as we go worth the 'sorting' time at the creation of each new object? Is it an empirical matter, with the answere a function of the workfile size?
