Census X-12 gives rather unadjusted series

Postby aloprofundo » Wed Jun 25, 2014 7:48 am

Dear All,

I tried to use Census X-12 to seasonally adjust the series named "Total" starting from Jan 1959 till May 2014 in the excel sheet "PermitsUA" and then compared it with the same series in excel sheet "PermitsSA", which was a seasonally adjusted series provided by the Census Bureau. The result shows that the seasonally adjusted series by Eviews is still rather "noisy/unadjusted". Could anyone please let me know why such a huge difference can exist?

P.S.
Note that I am aware that Eviews' Census X-12 only allows 600 observations and that , according to Census Bureau's definition, series shown as seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR) is the seasonally adjusted monthly value multiplied by 12.
