Changing links in the Eviews Excel add-in

Postby fajdelb » Mon Feb 10, 2014 2:53 pm

Hi there,

I'm using the Excel add-in for Eviews to export data from my Eviews databases to Excel spreadsheets. It's a really convenient way to update the data in the spreadsheets when the databases change.

I'd like to move the location of my databases in my directory, but when I do that I discover that the add-in is still linking to the old location. I've tried to use the 'Manage' function in the Excel add-in to change the link location, but with no luck.

I'm really not keen to rebuild very large linked Excel workbooks! Is there a way around this?

Thanks

Felix

Hi Felix:

Each time you import data using the EViews Add In for Excel, all it is doing is creating a standard link to an OLEDB datasource. You can edit these datasource links using the Excel interface. For example, in my Excel 2010, I click on the "Data" ribbon, then "Connections". This will show my a list of all the available database connections on my current spreadsheet. I select one of them and click "Properties". I then click on the "Definition" tab to see the connection string. The string looks like this:

Code: Select all

Provider=EViewsOleDbProvider.EViewsProv.1;Initial Catalog=Untitled;Path=C:\files\alpha.wf1;Max Rows=1000000;Timeout=10000;Include ID Series=False;Type=Auto;Server="";Username="";Password="";Max Objects=0;Object Types=series;Hold License=True
You can manually edit the "Path" section to point to the new location of your workfile.
