Ecowin Database

Postby Stortroll » Tue Aug 06, 2013 12:36 am

I try to open an Ecowin database by using

default as database name

and with a short alias name in the registry. This has worked fine for a long time in Eviews 7. But the same procedure doesn't work in Eviews 8. How come?

Best regards,
Bengt

If you are using the same the machine for both EViews 7 and 8, you dont need to re-add Ecowin to the database registry. The database registry is shared between versions.

In any case, what is the error message you are receiving?

The Error Message is:

Database Error: unable to initialise Ecowin library.

Are you using the same machine for both versions of EViews? It sounds as though, they are on different machines because that error normally means you do not have the required Ecowin libraries installed. These files must be obtained from the developers of Ecowin.

Yes, they are on the same machine and I am running the same command in Eviews 7 as in 8. Works perfectly in 7. The same problem appears on two machines, one with Windows 7 and the other with Windows 8, both running Eviews 7 and 8.

Are you using EViews 8 32 or 64 bit ? Select help->about EViews, just above 'EViews 8' it will either be blank or say '64 bit version'. Blank obviously means 32 bit.

It is our understanding that EcoWin never released a 64 bit version of their interface. That would explain why you are getting the 'unable to initialise Ecowin library' error.

If you are using EViews 8 64 bit, you will need to switch to the 32 bit version of EViews.

Thanks, it works now, and only with the 32-bits version.
