principal components error

Postby Linden » Thu Aug 01, 2013 1:11 am

I am trying to estimate pcs using the following code

freeze(tb1) gall.pcomp(eigval=v1,eigvec=m1) pc1 pc2 pc3

gall has 319 series. The program runs smoothly before this line.

Everytime I run this line, the program automatically shuts down with the following error message.

EViews7.exe - Application Error
The instruction at 0x06be11eb referenced memory at 0x07a01080. The memory could not be written.
Click on OK to terminate the program.

Can you please help me. Many thanks

What is the build date of your copy? (Available from Help->About EViews)

You should update to the latest version and see if that fixes it.

I think the problem is 319 series is too large for the PC analysis in EViews. When I try with a smaller data set, the program is ok. Just wonder if EViews 8 can handle larger number of series for PC analysis.
