EViews 8 Crashes on Insert Row in Table

I have noticed EViews 8 (32 bit version) has a tendency to crash when attempting to insert new rows to tables.

If I right click on a table row number, click insert cells, and select one row often I get a Windows 7 message that EViews has stopped working. The same happens if I click on a sell and then go for an insert entire row option.

This fault is intermittent which makes it quite difficult to tell what circumstances set it off. One common set of operations that precede it appears to be if the table has been copied from one page to another and the workfile has not been saved between this and the row being inserted, although I can't be certain if this is directly related to the crash.

We are unable to replicate the problem. Please send a copy of your workfile to support@eviews.com.

I would also make sure you are up to date (help->EViews update) and see if the problem is still there.

Apologies, I can't be much help here for a number of reasons.

Firstly the file is too big to email (40mb), and in any case a lot of the data contained is classed as confidential and legally I can't let it out of the office. If I delete the sensitive stuff the problem goes away, but that doesn't make my workfile any more useable!

I do have a work-around though which is to save the workfile which also cures the problem (although I'd prefer not to have to do this too often due to the size of the file over the network). I've got auto-update on, and todays update has not cured it.

My hunch is that it is triggered by memory limitations. A very large prg file has been used to import a lot of data, run several thousand regression and dump the results out into a table and copy it to a new page which is less cluttered with data (which is then crashing on insert row).

If dealing with lots of data, you should try using the 64bit version (assuming you have 64bit Windows).
