Forecasting in Panel Data Estimation

Postby elturco » Fri Sep 14, 2012 4:54 pm

I have a panel data model with 20 geographic regions and 15 years of data (1995-2010). I ran my regression using Fixed Effects Estimator. I have my regression output and next I want to do some forecasting. I am wondering how can I forecast my dependant variable for future years (2011-2015) in EVIEWS?

Hit the forecast button on your equation, and enter the forecast sample you want.

Yes, I did hit the forecast button and set my sample from 2011-2015 but it gives me an error indicating that the data is out of range. So unless I put some values in my dataset for those future years (which I have to make some assumptions for each independent variable), the program will not provide me with any future forecast.

You needed to have both space in the workfile (the workfile range has to cover the dates you wish to forecast over), and data for your independent variables for the forecast period.
