Hi,
I have a number of time series with ratings in numeric form. I have created a value map associating the numbers to text (e.g. "AAA", "AA+", etc.) and the series numbers are mapped to the codes well. However, when I plot the series, the numeric values appear on the chart's axis. Is there a way to map the axis values to the alphanumeric codes instead?
Thanks,
Javier

Yep, there is a way in fact, but is a little hidden one. Make a line & symbol graph (you will only see numbers, yes), then FREEZE IT, then in the freeze graph go to proc->options -> axis/scale choose "bottom axis" (in the "Edit Axis" menu) and when you have done this you will see appear in the low-right corner a button that says: "edit custom obs labels", click on it an then in the emergent menu choose "uninitialized (empty strings)" and a menu will appear where could put the A, A+ codes instead of the numbers.
Re: Value Maps - Charts
Unfortunately, I need the labels on the left/right axis, and not lables per observation. I try modifying the left/right axis labels but is not possible (or I don't know how).
Thanks,
Javier

What sort of chart are you doing?
Re: Value Maps - Charts
Rating agencies assign alphanumeric ratings to countries (AAA, AA, A, BBB, BB, etc). I have coded the alpha ratings to a numeric scale (e.g. AAA=10, AA=20, A=30, etc.) and I have created monthly time series with the numeric value of the ratings thus coded. I want to plot this series (x: time / y: rating) but instead of having a numeric axis I'd like to have the alpha ratings (so where there is a 10 have an axis label of AAA, for 20 an AA, for 30 an A).
I could do this by not showing the ticks, using addtext and calculating where in the virtual inch scale the text should go, but I wonder if there is a better way of doing this.

Javier

Re: Value Maps - Charts
I guess I should have been more specific - what sort of EViews graph are you doing?
When you choose to do a graph, what graph type are you using?

A line graph, with the idea of substituting the numbers in the left axis for alphanumeric ratings.
