Eviews crashes when renaming variables

I am currently using eviews 7.2 enterprise in an attempt to rename several thousand variables. I have tried writing the program several different ways and they all crash.

Currently:

%w = "Huge variables list"
for %w4 {%w}
%w5 = @replace(%w4,"_S5","_")
rename {%w4} {%w5}
next

I am not sure if it matters but the variables were downloaded from Moody's economy.com. We have also tried to do this on several other machines.

The crash error is "EViews has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Please tell Microsoft about the problem...."

Any ideas?

Any chance you could send us (support@eviews.com) the workfile prior to the renaming, so we can try the code ourselves? I just created a test workfile, and it didn't crash.
