Option for solver in program

Postby yguill1 » Tue Jan 31, 2012 2:14 am

I am writing an Eviews program and would like to do the equivalent of “unchecking” the box “Solve model in both directions” using the model_name.solve(options) command or in some other way. There seems to be no option to do so, at least in the documentation, but perhaps the option exists?

If it does not already exist, it would seem like a simple addition to the options for the solve command since this option is already available in the dialog.

Thank you,

Yvan

I believe there is currently not a command line option for this, but I will see about putting one in for the next version.

Thank you for considering adding this option to the solve command. The reason this would be useful is that some (somewhat unstable) forward-looking models solve well when the algorithm only loops forward and don't solve at all (under any of of solvers) when the alrorithm loops both forward and backward in time. So one cannot put a solve command in a program that uses such a model. Instead one needs to break out of the program and solve the model "manually" while unchecking the option in the dialog. Then start another program to continue the calculations...

If this option is simple to add and it could be done as part of a patch rather than in Eviews 8 it would be great.

Thank you,

Yvan

Hello everyone, I am looking for a solver program like the excel's solver. I need to find a rate that makes a difference equal to zero, is a cash flow with terminal value that needs to be equal to a number.
A program, an add-in or a command would be very appropiate.

Thanks a lot!
Karina
