Edit replace settings

I dealt with this issue years ago, but don't remember where to find the setting:
When manually editing a program file, I usually want the menu drop-down item Edit/Replace (or the Replace button) to search only below the cursor, rather than searching and replacing in the whole document. Recently Replace switched from one mode to the other.
Where is this option controlled?
And for future reference, where in the Help files is this discussed?
