format graph axis as date

I have a data value column (e.g. oxygen) and a date column. The date column is NOT used as the observation identifier in this particular worksheet because there are duplicates in the dates. I can graph my data vs. date using an xy graph, but the date axis is not formatted as a date and I can't figure out how to get it to treat that axis as a date for display purposes. Is there any way to get a column NOT used as the observation identifier to display as dates in a graph? Thanks.

Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to do this.


Actually, I can't think of a hard way to do it either!
