Why when i attempt to copy data from excel( quick + empty group + paste), it is saved as alphanumeric data set while I want it as time series. I necer had this problem before and dont know how to reset this.

EViews will bring in all data as numeric if possible. You may have some observations which are not numeric and rather than lose an alphanumeric value, EViews decided to bring in the data as an alpha series. Verify all of the observations are numeric.

You also have to option force individual series to be numeric from the dialog (Excel 97-2003 clipboard read dialog) displayed just after paste. This can be done by clicking the series in the preview window and then choosing 'Number' from the 'Data Type' combo in the 'Column info' box. Note: Any non-numeric observations will be converted to NA.
