Variable / series name length

Postby jim.savage » Mon May 02, 2011 12:11 am

Hi,

I have looked through the documentation and forums, but I can't find a discussion of whether there is a maximum length for series names. I am importing data from the csv output of a large CGE model. Unfortunately, the model spits out its variable names without consideration of length--and Eviews doesn't like long names.

How big is the limit, why is there a limit, and what can I do to increase it?

All the best,
Jim

24 characters, and that can't be increased.

Thanks Gareth. It's not the end of the world, and I know mnemonics should be kept short, but I'd love to see an increase of the limit at the next release.

Cheers,
Jim

I'll mention it, but it is really quite complicated to do and maintain backwards compatibility.
