Import text columns into a workfile

Hi,

I'm trying to import some excel file to an unstructured/undated workfile. My excel file has a column with strings, another with date, and a numeric one.
The string column is becoming NA in the workfile and the object created by eviews to receive this string data is 'series' not 'alpha' as I supposed it would automatically be. Am I doing something wrong? How should I import this type of file?

When entering the series names in the import dialog box, put the "$" tag (i.e., dollar sign) after the name of any series you'd like to be read as alpha data (e.g., "COUNTRY $ INCOME CONSUMP").
