Tramo/Seat Failure

Postby RonGibson » Tue May 15, 2012 2:40 pm

I have been trying to run Tramo/Seats and have experienced errors and Eviews shutdowns in 1 out of every (approx) 10 series I try to run. This is a periodic problem.

The error report reads as follows on one computer:
forrtl: severe (59): list-directed I/0 syntax error, unit 5, file C:\Users\Ron\AppData\ev_temp\seats\serie2
Image PC Routine Line Source
DFORRT.dll 0031A7A9 Unknown Unknown Unknown

A different machine the same error came up as but included the following dll errors after the one above:

The setup (workbook features) I'm using is 10 years of quarterly data, dated 1990 to 1999
I enter the following dataset (as an example) using Quick> Empty Group. And enter in the following:

3014000000
2859000000
2865000000
3203000000
3240000000

4106000000
3956000000
3885000000
3926000000
4065000000

I open the ser01 with contains these numbers. Select Proc>Seasonal Adjustment>Tramo Seats. I leave all of the default selections except I am only interested in saving the seasonally Adjusted Series (_sa), however, the same error occurred when selecting the seasonal factors (_sf). I soon as I hit OK the error above pops up. Upon selecting OK for the error, Eviews crashes and any data not saved was lost.

This error does not occur on all series. However, the series above has caused the crash consistently. Just to check, if I divide the above series by 10000, then the error doesn't occur. But I don't want to adjust my series.

Any help is appreciated in getting Tramo to function properly. Using X12, there is no issue.

This is a problem in the Tramo/Seats code, not the EViews code itself. Unfortunately when Tramo/Seats crashes, it causes EViews to crash too.

Since we do not write the Tramo/Seats code, there is little we can do to prevent this from happening, other than by suggesting you rescale your data, as you have done.
