Panel data dummies problem

Hello,

I currently use eviews7 for my study. My study is about capital structure. I have 13 independent variables, 1 dependent for 3 countries during 1990-2010. Anyway, i have to split time frame into 5 subperiods: 1990-1996,1997-1998, 1999-2007, 2008 and 1999-2010.

My problem is insufficient observations for runing Eviews due to split countries and periods. Thus, I would like to use country dummy and dummy year.

My 2 big problems are:

1. I knew how to create dummy; for example, dummy1=@recode(bkcode=1,1,0) for the first country, and did the same for the others.(Is that correct?). Unfortunately, I don't know how to create dummy for year.

2. After creating dummy, I don't know how to put in in specification equation. For example, if i would like to analysis the first bank during 1990-1996 (the first period), I should use this equation or not?
" Y c x1 x2 x3 x4 x5 x6 x7 x8 x9 x10 x11 x12 x13 dummy1 dummyyear1"

Y=dependent V x= independent V ( I use symbol due to avoiding long writing)

Help me please, I took time so long to fix the probles :cry:

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for your reply,

I still have the other problem. How can i put dummy in equation? As Stated in my 2nd question

Y=dependent V x= independent V ( I use symbol due to avoiding long writing)

I used panel workfile in my stuay. I'm weak in Econometrics, Hope you understand me.

Thanks in advance
