New Eviews User, Need help ASAP

So I just downloaded Eviews today for a course I'm taking. However, I was sick the first two days of class when our teacher went over a brief summary how to use Eviews so I am completely lost.
Im trying to Generate an Annual Inflation Data of π (=log(deflator/deflator(-4)) (based on a GDP deflator Data set I downloaded) but whenever I try to generate that equation, it says syntax error or π is not defined
Is there a certain way I have to type it into the equation? Any help would be appreciated.
