Dear list,

I have already entered panel data in excel. how does Eviews recognize dummy variable after importing into eviews?

does it require special coding? I have two dummy variables. Can i give the same code (1-0) for each of the variables? or should I use a different code for financial crisis?

1) Ownership dummy= Ownership dummy representing domestic ownership; 1 when a bank is owned by a national; 0 otherwise (foreign)
2) financial crisis dummy: binary variable that indicates the state of the economy "crisis" or "normal" crisis=1, normal=0

here are my dummy variables in excel.

please help!!

my question is the following:

after I import panel data into eviews, do I have to write a special code for dummy variables?

in other words, do dummy variables need special rearrangement/ or coding after being imported into eviews or do I treat them like other variables?

I hope it is clear.

A dummy variable is like any other variable.

By the way, in the Excel file you posted it looks like the dummy variables are miscoded.

thanks for the response.

you mean financial crisis dummy was miscoded. right? I have figured out the problem.

financial crisis dummy: binary variable that indicates the state of the economy "crisis" or "normal"

crisis=1, normal=0 (btw, does it matter if crisis is 0, normal is 1?)

I hope this is correct now. can you double check the attached file?

thanks a lot again.
