hello,

I'm a new user of eviews: I have some problems importing data from an excel file. I don't undertstand why when I use the function "open-foreign data as a workfile" and I select an excel file, filled with numeric data, eviews creates series of alphanumeric data, then when I open the series I see numbers in the columns. but since eviews thinks that they are alphanumeric data, when I try to create a regression with another numeric serie it doesn't work. How can I change in numeric data these series of alphanumeric data? I have Eviews 6 student version. I read that someone else had the same problem, I tried to follow what you suggest to do, but I wasn't be able to solve the problem. What's more, when I import data from another excel file it works properly, and I'm able to create series of numeric data without any problem. Could you help me?

Thanks in advance.
Marta

It is because EViews 6 doesn't recognise the commas as decimals. If you change your commas to points, it should work.
