Interpreting Probit Output

Postby seedhouse » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:55 am

Hi,

I am using EViews 7, and have used a probit model to estimate probably of someone dealing in a game of Deal Or No Deal. However, I am having trouble understanding what the output means. Below is what I have got.

Dependent Variable: DECISION
Method: Least Squares
Date: 02/16/11 Time: 10:23
Sample: 1 1836
Included observations: 1824

Variable Coefficient Std. Error t-Statistic Prob.

C 0.239305 0.014088 16.98660 0.0000
LNOFF_EV 0.080755 0.008891 9.082448 0.0000
AGE_30 -0.023886 0.018441 -1.295312 0.1954
AGE_60 -0.003471 0.021883 -0.158637 0.8740
LOSS -0.050488 0.015753 -3.204927 0.0014

R-squared 0.061062 Mean dependent var 0.124452
Adjusted R-squared 0.058997 S.D. dependent var 0.330187
S.E. of regression 0.320299 Akaike info criterion 0.563612
Sum squared resid 186.6135 Schwarz criterion 0.578713
Log likelihood -509.0141 Hannan-Quinn criter. 0.569183
F-statistic 29.57358 Durbin-Watson stat 2.375536
Prob(F-statistic) 0.000000

Probit model from EViews with P(deal=1) = a + b.log(off/ev) + c.age<30 + d.age>60 + e.loss

The main variables I'm interested in are the coefficients of LNOFF_EV and LOSS (0.08 and -0.05 respectively)

Thanks.
