General recommended setup for database

Hi,
I am about to set up a larger database that includes financial and economic data. Most of that data is available in 5-day frequency, but sometimes there are data points missing in some series (e.g. holiday in Japan while markets were open in the US). I just want to be sure to set the workfiles and database up in the best was possible, i.e. where it provides me the largest flexibility afterwards.
I have difficulties finding documentation on exactly this problem. As the data gets updated frequently I need to choose the right (common) setup for all series from all different sources. When playing around with the data I recognized that it indeed makes a difference when I select NA or the last known numeric value for a missing day.
I guess the best way it to use the 5-day frequency from EViews (as it contains allb usiness days) and then import the other series based on that?
I am grateful for every advice. Thanks in advance.
