Importing pool data

Hi,
I thought I was a savvy eviews user but I'm having a devil of a time with a pool data set-up. I have data on 66 countries from 1989-2008 on a variety of topics, including bank credit. I open the foreign data (excel) as workfile, set-up the pool object using the country names as identifiers, import the data into the pool object, and here's where it goes screwy - rather than importing bank credit albania, bank credit argentina, and having the numbers correspond, eviews imports bank credit albania, and then when I look at the series, it's the entire series, just tagged ALBANIA - albania89, ALBANIA -argentina89. Then when I open other series, such as the bank credit for Argentina, it says NA, because all of the actual data is in ALBANIA. What is going on here?
The data in excel is the way I've always done it and it's always worked before - stacked, so
interest rate bank credit
Albania 1989
Albania 1990
...
Argentina 1989
Argentina 1990...
This is driving me mad - is there something I'm doing wrong on the import? Something wrong with the identifiers? Or something screwy with the excel sheet?
