If you are having trouble updating EViews 12 on Windows, I would suggest you download the latest patch and install it manually. You can get the latest patch by going to our patch download site here:
https://eviews.com/download.
Once downloaded, run the patch to update your EViews 12.
If you continue to have issues opening files, please provide the following details:
EViews 12 build date? (Go to Help menu/About EViews)
Running on Windows or OSX?
What file type are you trying to open? A workfile (.wf1/.wf2)? A text file (.txt/.csv)?
How are you trying to open the file? Are you using the File menu/Open menu item? Or are you dragging and dropping the file? Or maybe just running the WFOPEN command?
