DB and DBOPEN commands

I recently upgraded from EViews 11 (EE - Jun 9 2021 build) to EViews 12 (EE - Sep 1 2021 build) and am quite disturbed to report that much of our production EViews code is suddenly broken. The cause seems to be the way the db and dbopen commands behave under certain conditions. Please follow the instructions in attached program to see a simple demonstration of the problem.
Note that the attached program works as expected in EViews 11 but not in EViews 12.
