Deal All,

I am working on dividend data, where I have my dependent variable div and several explanatory variables including dummies related to age gneder etc.
I have data for several companies over 8 years. But for each single company I may have either more than one observation per year or none per year. This creates an unbalanced panel as there is no one by one relation e.g. one observation per company per year.
How to make this kind of date fitted to eviews ???
I try to enter them and when i choose resize to undated panel choising year i have a message that "dateid is nested into companyname"
Obviously my cross-sections is company name??
my time?

Additionally if I keep one observation for each company, lets say the first one that is presnted in my sample do i still have panel data? how do i resize them?

I'm assuming you're using "event" as the date series. Can you give an example of a year that had more than one company in it?

If you are using "year" as the date series, then the error you get is that there are duplicates. This is true - for example there are two HK 2007s.

Event is unique and it is just to identify each single line.
I am using year as date series as you guess and i have duplicates.
Normally I want to have cross sections=name (each company) and date series=year, but I do not know how to fit them in eviews. Now as you have the data is it possible to suggest me how to transform them and fit them in a correct way in eviews.
In each year there are several observations coming from different companies.

Maybe I have to choose either to fit them using cross section or date series??
Please help me as this is too confusing for me

I cannot tell you how to structure your data, all I can do is state that, currently at least, you do not have panel data.

I fully understand that I have not panel data, but due to your experience I would be glad if you could tell me what do you suggest?? I mean what variable to choose in order to structure my data as panel??
I check several posts related to panel data or your guide, but i coulld not find a single case that match with my issue.

Any guidance??

You cannot structure your data as a panel because the data is not panel data.

EViews only allows you to structure panel data as a panel.
