How to get descriptive statistics and univariate analysis

Postby gishena » Mon Apr 18, 2016 6:57 am

I have all the needed data - many firm observations over a long time period. I need to get the mean values for a subsample of firms which undertake a certain activity.
More precisely - I have series with data about total assets, short-term debt, long-term debt etc. I have also variables (such as market-to-book ratio) the mean values of which I want to get for a subsamle of firms.

Namely, I want to see the mean values for a variable (lets say debt/total assets) for firms that make an equity issue during a year [(equity at 2005-equity in 2004)>total assets 2005[. I can do it in excel, but since I have over 10000 observations my computer will blow up.

And one more thing - I need those mean values to be marked with * and ** if they are significantly different from another sample.

I have no idea how to do it in EViews. Maybe generate series with an if function but I have really no idea. Please assist!
